Internet marketing for me has become like a hunter stalking the prey. Humans are hunters in all walks of life because they seek someone to sell their ideas to, although many would not agree with the use of the term 'sell'. Well, if you know a better one we would all like to hear it.

The other side of clever marketing is knowledge and most come to the Internet in search of it. Reports, e-books, techniques, even expressing one's opinion is designed with the buyer in mind. There is nothing wrong with that but sitting in wait is the author, programmer, designer, systems manager, software developer, and so on, all waiting for you to come to their drinking hole.

The hunger to find you is apparent as people search the web for leads to your site. Its like the game sniffing out the watering hole as it plods on through the desert or wilderness. The aim of the seller is to induce a stampeded so he lays out something onto the table to spread an aroma through the atmosphere. A clever marketer will use bait, like burley, to feed it out to the extremes of the tentacles that are there to drag in the prey.

The prey want to be caught because that's the other side of human nature. We are all prey to one another and its the strongest who survives. It’s the strongest programmer, the toughest marketer, the cagiest trapper, and the quickest to learn who will do the catching while the victims allow themselves to be reeled in and fleeced.

As one who is both hunter and prey I know that I need the hunters who prey on me in order to learn how to be a successful hunter in my own right. That's what the Internet does best and if we apprentice ourselves to the best hunters then we must, in the end, reel in the prey. Don't you think?
